The City of Markham, located in the heart of York Region, is one of the most diverse cities in Canada with more than 65 cultures and languages. It’s the 4th largest city in the Greater Toronto Area with a population of more than 350,000 and home to a large Asian population. Its boundaries include Vaughan, Steeles Avenue, Highway 7, 404 to 19th Avenue and Stouffville Road. The city is divided by the Don River and Rouge River. Markham consists of plenty of neighborhoods including Thornhill, Milliken Mills, Buttonville, Angus Glen, Unionville, Markham Village to name a few. Thornhill and Unionville are among the popular communities that residents enjoy and are visited by many visitors across the city.

 

Markham offers a very rich cultural heritage, focused on community spirit and a vibrant local environment. You will find plenty of landmarks in this town including Pacific Mall, one of the largest Asian indoor markets in North America, Markville Shopping Mall and the beautiful Unionville, the signature neighborhood in Markham. Did you know that Markham is considered the “High-Tech Capital of Canada''? A large number of tech companies are located here including IBM Canada, AMD, CGI to name a few. Markham has a number of public and Catholic schools including the well-known post-secondary institution – Seneca College – and soon York University.

Markham has three Go Train stations in Markham Village, Unionville and Milliken including the newly developed public transit system.
